Lieutenant Colonel John M. Strong was
mustered in the U.S. service on September 5, 1862, under a commission as Lt.
Colonel dated October 4, 1862, rank September 5, 1862 at the age of 29.
Colonel Strong was taken severely ill at Pleasant
Valley, Maryland in October 1862, went home, and resigned March 1, 1863.
After the war Colonel Strong acted as the
US Consul at Bellville, Ontario, as Salt Superintendent at Syracuse, NY, was a
member of the Board of Supervisors in both his native town and in the city of
Syracuse, and was a member of the Board of Education of Syracuse.
