Henry L. Purdy enlisted August 30, 1862 at the age of 18. He was
wounded in the left shoulder at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 3, 1863.
He was promoted from corporal to sergeant May 1, 1863 and transferred to
Non-commissioned staff as Com. Sergeant on August 8, 1864 at Atlanta Georgia.
