Bela P. Hitchcock enlisted on August 29, 1862 at the age of
18. He was promoted to Sergeant from Corporal on August 1, 1863 and to
1st Sergeant on March 1, 1864.
He was wounded in the hand slightly at Reseca, Ga. on May 15,
1864 and in the foot severely at New Hope Church, Ga. on May 25, 1864.
He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of Company G on September 5,
1864 under a commission dated July 14, 1864, rank June 1, 1864 and to Adjutant
about May 1, 1865, under a commission dated April 22, 1865, rank March 15,
1865, and mustered out of service as Adjutant on roll of staff officers.
