Joseph Davis enlisted August 29, 1862 at the age of 21 as a
private in Company D and transferred the same day to non-commissioned staff as
Quarter Master Sergeant. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of Company K at
Brooks Station, Virginia Februrary 9, 1863 under a commission dated February 9,
1863, rank December 12, 1862.
He was killed at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 3, 1863.
