James A. Close enlisted September 3, 1862 at the age of 19.
He was slightly wounded in the arm at Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, November
24, 163 and sent to the hospital at Murfreesboro.
He was promoted to Sergeant at Atlanta, Georgia on August 7, 1864.
He died of disease at Atlanta, Georgia on September 16, 1864.
