The
149th NY State Volunteer Infantry participated in some of the most important battles of the US
Civil War. Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Lookout
Mountain were just some of the battles fought by the men of the 149th. Their Gettysburg
monument is seen here to the left.
They were part of the "Crack
Division" of Sherman's Army which never lost an artillery piece or a stand of color.
Six members of the
149th received the Congressional
Medal of Honor. The regiment's efforts were further recognized when
William Fox included them among the top 300 fighting units in the
Union.
This web site is dedicated to their
courage and sacrifice.
